Jefimova just turned 18 and had a great 2024. At 17 years old, she became the European champion in the 100-meter breaststroke and placed seventh in the same event at the Paris Olympic Games. She made history at the Short Course World Championships by winning Estonia's first-ever world championship medal, earning bronze in the 100-meter breaststroke, and finishing fifth in the 50-meter event.
"I hope to inspire young athletes in every corner of Estonia, showing that perseverance and hard work can take you to the top of the world. Thank you, and see you again next year!" Jefimova said. The young swimmer was also voted as the best Youth Athlete of the year.
26-year-old Johannes Erm was named Male Athlete of the Year for the first time after achieving an outstanding season. This summer, Erm won the European Championship in Rome with 8,764 points, the second-best result in Estonia's history. „Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, what have I just done?“ he paraphrased his legendary saying after becoming the European Champion. I am competing alone, but this is not a one-man show," he thanked his coaches and physiotherapist.
The night was filled with excitement as various awards, such as Estonian Sporting Spirit and the Clubs of the Year 2024, were presented, celebrating exceptional achievements across multiple fields. Highlighting their excellent performance in the Paris 2024 Paralympic games, para-triathlete Laura-Liis Juursalu and para-swimmer Matz Topkin were awarded the Para-Athlete of the Year 2024 awards.
